Hunter Timber Frame is a small timber frame company. We've been woodworking since 1968. Our interest in timber framing came in the mid 1970s when we were installing a lot of exposed ceiling beams, most of which were for remodeling jobs and were only used in some of the rooms for looks only, but we were forced into getting educated and researching the old time methods of joining timbers together.

There wasn't much written material at that time on old timber joinery so we got as much information we could from old-timers and looking into old barns and occasionally remodeling a house that was built in the 1800s.

The demand for timber framing has grown and some excellent material has been written by outstanding craftsmen which has been a real benefit to the industry.

Most of the frames we produce in our shop are our Brookside model frame using Norther White Pine timbers. The Brookside is our most popular frame, it is a Cape style home with a wing on each side. It can be modified in a lot of ways without changing the frame design in any way because the wings and ain house are completely independent of each other. The main section can stand alone which gives you a 30 foot deep by 36 foot long standard Cape, or 1 or both wings can be included.

We also have the Colonial design we call the Stonewall and this also is done in Northern White Pine as our standard material because we are in Pine Country and this material is desirable, nice looking and readily available at reasonable prices keeping the frame price fairly low.

We also do custom frames which are designed by you, we will make any necessary changes to fit our method of joinery and also meet your requirements. We use computer aided design and drafting software (CADD) to insure exact dimensions and angles which makes for good fitting and strong joints. We specialize in frames and we will provide complete sets of drawings with our standard frames. Our primary customers are home owner builders and building contractors who will with their crews put together our frame package.

In our shop we plane the timbers, then do all the joinery and assemble most of the parts to insure a perfect fit, after the parts are planed and joinery is complete each piece is beveled on three edgeds, sanded and a coat of oil miz is applied to the timbers. The sections are then carefully bundlded and made ready for shipping.

The completed timber frame house is much more than a beautiful piece of architecture. Because of the demand for energy conservation and the cost of heating, the frames are designed to be enclosed by applying stresskin panels to the outside of the frame which makes an unbroken energy efficient enclosure.
